Job 38:1 >> Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

Job 38

You laid the foundations of the earth. You determined its measurements. You stretched the line upon it and fastened its foundations. You laid its cornerstone and the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy.

You shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth and issued from the womb. You made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band. You fixed Your limit for it, and set bars and doors. You said, ‘This far you may come, but no farther, and here your proud waves must stop!’

You commanded the morning since its days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it. It takes on form like clay under a seal, and stands out like a garment. From the wicked their light is withheld, and the upraised arm is broken.

You entered the springs of the sea and walked in search of the depths. You reveal the gates of death and show the doors of the shadow of death. You comprehended the breadth of the earth. You created the dwelling of light, and the place of darkness. You take it to its territory. You created the paths to its home. You created the treasury of snow, and the treasury of hail, which You reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war.

You diffuse light, and the east wind scattered over the earth. You divided a channel for the overflowing water, a path for the thunderbolt, to cause it to rain on a land where there is no one, a wilderness in which there is no man. To satisfy the desolate waste, and cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass. You created the rain and the drops of dew and the ice, and the frost of heaven. The waters harden like stone, and the surface of the deep is frozen.

You bind the cluster of the Pleiades, loose the belt of Orion, bring out Mazzaroth in its season, guide the Great Bear with its cubs. You are God of the ordinances of the heavens. You set their dominion over the earth. You lift up Your voice to the clouds, that an abundance of water may cover the earth. You send out lightnings, that they may go, and say to you, ‘Here we are!’

You put wisdom in the mind and give understanding to the heart. You number the clouds by wisdom. You pour out the bottles of heaven, when the dust hardens in clumps, and the clods cling together. You hunt the prey for the lion, and satisfy the appetite of the young lions, when they crouch in their dens, or lurk in their lairs to lie in wait. You provide food for the raven, when its young ones cry to God, and wander about for lack of food.

Job 39

You know the time when the wild mountain goats bear young. You mark when the deer gives birth. You number the months that they fulfill. You know the time when they bear young. They bow down, they bring forth their young, they deliver their offspring. Their young ones are healthy, they grow strong with grain. They depart and do not return to them. You set the wild donkey free. You loosed the bonds of the onager, whose home You have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwelling. He scorns the tumult of the city. He does not heed the shouts of the driver.

The wild ox is willing to serve You. He beds by your manger. You bind the wild ox in the furrow with ropes. He plows the valleys behind You. You trust him because his strength is great. You leave Your labor to him. You trust him to bring home Your grain, and gather it to Your threshing floors.

The wings of Your ostrich wave proudly. She leaves her eggs on the ground, and warms them in the dust. She forgets that a foot may crush them, or that a wild beast may break them. She treats her young harshly, as though they were not hers. Her labor is in vain, without concern, because You deprived her of wisdom, and did not endow her with understanding. When she lifts herself on high, she scorns the horse and its rider.

You have given the horse strength. You have clothed his neck with thunder. You frighten him like a locust. His majestic snorting strikes terror. He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength. He gallops into the clash of arms. He mocks at fear, and is not frightened. Nor does he turn back from the sword. The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and javelin. He devours the distance with fierceness and rage. Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded.

The hawk flies by your wisdom, and spreads its wings toward the south. The eagle mounts up at your command, and makes its nest on high. On the rock it dwells and resides, on the crag of the rock and the stronghold. From there it spies out the prey. Its eyes observe from afar. Its young ones suck up blood. And where the slain are, there it is.

Job 40

Shall the one who contends with You correct You. Would anyone indeed annul Your judgment? Would anyone condemn You that they may be justified? Has anyone an arm like You? Can anyone thunder with a voice like Yours? Can anyone adorn themselves with majesty and splendor, and array themselves with glory and beauty. You disperse the rage of your wrath. You look on everyone who is proud, and humble them. You look on everyone who is proud, and bring them low. You tread down the wicked in their place. Hide them in the dust together, and bind their faces in hidden darkness.

Look now at the behemoth, which You made along with man. He is the first of Your ways. Only You who made him can bring near Your sword.

Job 41

You draw out Leviathan with a hook. You snare his tongue with a line which you lower. You put a reed through his nose, and pierce his jaw with a hook. He makes many supplications to you. He speaks softly to you. He made a covenant with you. You take him as a servant forever. No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up.

Who then is able to stand against You. Who has preceded You, that You should pay him. Everything under heaven is Yours.

Receive Holy Spirit Guidance

  • Let Your Holy Spirit help us to pray because Your Word says that we do not know how to pray as we ought but that the Holy Spirit helps in our weaknesses and makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (Romans 8:26)

  • Let the Holy Spirit make intercession through and for us according to the will of God (Romans 8:27)

  • Let the Holy Spirit guide us into all the truth and declare to us the things that are to come (John 16:13)

  • Let the Holy Spirit baptize us fully as with the apostles, let tongues of Holy Spirit fire rest upon each of us and let us receive Your Holy Spirit power so that we are led by the Holy Spirit in everything pertaining to this life (Acts 1:5-8 & Acts 2:1-4)
